Bagan Adventure Tour 4 Days / 3 Nights – Mount Victoria

BAGAN - KANPETLET (L)

Your Mount Victoria Expedition begins with a 7-hour trip by car to Kanpetlet. The drive is lengthy but full of interesting scenery.

Start of heading south in the direction of Chauk (1 hour) and stop to visit a relatively undiscovered market, before crossing the Ayeyarwaddy River and entering the Magway Division. The area you will drive through sees few tourists and you will pass scenes of true rural Myanmar life. You will arrive in Kazunma village (2 hours) around lunch time, stopping to stretch your legs and enjoy a local meal.

After lunch you’ll continue your scenic journey to Kanpetlet, stopping on the way in the small town of Saw affording you splendid scenery from a viewpoint. After another 18 kilometers you’ll finally reach Kanpetlet, a picturesque old British settlement hill station 3,000 feet above sea level with a pleasantly cool climate year round.

Take a deep breath of the cool, fresh air and walk around town in order to shake off the effects of today’s journey.

Picnic lunch en route and dinner on own account. Stay overnight in Kanpetlet.

KANPETLET – MT. VICTORIA – AYE VILLAGE (B/L/D)

Make sure you get in a good breakfast as you will need plenty of energy for today’s adventure. You will be ascending to the peak of Mount Victoria, winding through the forests with occasional viewpoints of the surrounding Chin Mountains: it is guaranteed to be an unforgettable experience. You’ll start with a short drive to the base camp which sits under Mount Victoria (approx. 1 hour drive).

The climb to the summit may be slightly arduous, but you can be sure that your efforts will be rewarded when you reach the summit as you take in the breath taking and panoramic view of the surrounding peaks.

If you are particularly fortuitous, your visit will coincide with the flowering of the rhododendrons offering further visual delights. Once you’ve finally reached the mountain peak, a picnic lunch will be served and you will have a chance to rest and enjoy the cool mountain air (3 hours trek).

Afterwards you will descend to the upper base camp from where you will be driven to Aye, a Chin village located on a cliff. Despite the short distance the drive might take up to 1 ½ hours due to the rough road. In Aye, you will see how little life has changed over the centuries for the Chin people and as an added bonus you might even spot a few tattooed women.

There’ll be plenty of time to explore the area, interact with the villagers and learn more about their culture and lifestyle as you will be staying with a local family or communal house.

AYE VILLAGE – KYARDO VILLAGE – LOTE PE VILLAGE - MINDAT (B/L)

Another day of exploring the Chin Hills starts off with a local breakfast in Aye Village. Then you will take a 2 hour drive to Shein village, the starting point of your trek. Walk for one hour to Kyardo village. Here, the villagers are famous for their colourful traditional costumes and believe in spirits and animism and some time will be spent walking around the village to learn about their unusual beliefs.

A half-hour trek takes you to Lote Pe, an old Chin village located on top of a hill where you can see again some elder women with tattooed faces. After this once in a lifetime experience, take a 60 minute hike down to base camp where a vehicle will be waiting to transport you back to you to Mindat. After an hour you’ll arrive in Mindat at your hotel.

MINDAT – PONETAUNG PONENYAR - BAGAN (B/L)

Before returning to Bagan, you will visit the local market of Mindat where traders from surrounding villages come to sell and trade their wares. The 6 hour drive back to Bagan travels along a different road from the first day’s trip and is filled with impressive scenery. The road passes through lush pine tree forests, dramatic hills and the Ponetaung Ponenyar Mountain Range which provide lots of great photo opportunities.

In the late afternoon, you will arrive in Bagan and be dropped off at you hotel. (Hotel in Bagan not included in rate).

• Important Notes:

– Road between Mt. Victoria & Aye Village (also known as Aye Sakan) is a dirt road and can be impaired or inaccessible during the months just after the rain stops. Best traveling time for above program is between mid of January to mid of April.

– Overnight stay in Aye Sakan is arranged with very basic accommodation. Meals arrangement is also very basic. Therefore, we recommend this trip to those who does not mind the compromised accommodation and meals condition (for homestay at Aye Sakan village).

– For those who are unable to compromise to the very basic local arrangements may choose an alternative program.
